Psalm 9:9  “The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed, a stronghold in times of trouble.”

In this world, we face difficulties every day and we need shelter to survive - not just physical shelter to protect us from the elements of nature, but spiritual shelter to protect us from the mental and emotional difficulties we face .  Grief is one of those difficulties.  Grief comes from loss - the loss of a loved one, the loss of a job, the loss of a marriage, the loss of particular season of life .  When loss feels oppressive and the grief is unrelenting, the sheltering presence of God is very real.  His love for you is a presence of strength on days when you feel your weakest.

Spend a few minutes in quiet reflection on God’s closeness.  Think about specific circumstances in your life where you needed His shelter in the past and remember the ways He provided.  Pray about specific circumstances you are currently experiencing and and express your need for His shelter.  If words don’t come as easily as tears, then let your tears be your prayer today.
